“You’re Probably Going To Jail” – A Judge’s Warning

Unknown Defendant: “I don’t want an attorney, I want to represent myself.“
Judge: “Ok. You are probably going to jail.”

This was the conversation in a local courtroom, as relayed to us by a person (now a client) who originally thought representing herself was a good idea. Thankfully (for her), she wasn’t the first person called up before the judge that morning, so she was able to watch and to learn what not to do from the other person’s misfortune. Thankfully, when it was her turn in front of the judge, she respectfully asked for (and was given) a little more time to hire an attorney. And thankfully, she had already spoken with Reynolds Defense Firm the day before, so she knew where to turn to find the help she needed.

Please remember that in our criminal justice system, it isn’t the judge’s role to help the person charged with a crime, that is your attorney’s role. And if you show up in court on a DUI without an attorney, you can understand this judge’s pragmatic solution – if you don’t think that a DUI arrest is serious enough to hire an attorney, well, perhaps some jail time will get your attention…

Reynolds Defense Firm believes everyone who needs our services deserves to have a talented and competent DUI specialists by their side as they navigate through the legal system. I hope you never need us, but if you do, please call our team at 503.223.3422 or chat with us live 24/7 to schedule a complimentary consultation.
