Unknown Defendant: “I don’t want an attorney, I want to represent myself.“
Judge: “Ok. You are probably going to jail.”

This was the conversation in a local courtroom, as relayed to us by a person (now a client) who originally thought representing herself was a good idea. Thankfully (for her), she wasn’t the first person called up before the judge that morning, so she was able to watch and to learn what not to do from the other person’s misfortune. Thankfully, when it was her turn in front of the judge, she respectfully asked for (and was given) a little more time to hire an attorney.
