Looking for festive things to do this weekend without breaking the bank? We’ve highlighted some fun events around town that won’t cost you anything but a smile.

December 7th – Christmas Caroling

Pioneer Courthouse Square and Portland Mall Management, Inc. are hosting the 5th Annual Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition. Originally held throughout Downtown in the early 90s, the competition is a fun and festive event that will bring caroling groups of all ages to the heart of downtown. Portland’s classic caroling group, The Dickens Carolers, will judge each group based upon creativity, singing ability, street presence and originality. The top three singing groups will then have a “carol-off” on stage at Pioneer Courthouse Square. Your presence is needed too, because the audience applause will determine the winners. First place gets a $1,000 grand prize! This free caroling competition will be held from 5:30pm – 7:30pm.

December 7th – Hood River Parade

Looking to get out of town this weekend? The The Hood River Holiday Kick-off Party and Parade is a perfect option! Experience the small-town charm of Hood River at the annual holiday parade and tree lighting. Enjoy amazing food while doing some of your holiday shopping in the historic downtown, and then watch the holiday parade as it winds through streets. The evening concludes with the city tree lighting, caroling, and perhaps even a Santa sighting! The parade starts at 6 p.m. and the entire event is free.

December 8th – 9th – Holiday Craft Show

Crafty Wonderland Holiday Art and Craft Market is being held at the Oregon Convention Center and  will feature over 250 of the best and brightest handmade vendors from the NW and beyond! You can enjoy food and drinks while marveling at the artistry and you’ll find a ton of unique gifts for your loved ones – or yourself, after all you deserve it. The event is free and open to the public all day Saturday and Sunday from 11am – 6pm.

December 8th – 9th – Holiday Aerial Show

While the event isn’t free, admission is affordable and totally worth it to see a fun and exciting holiday aerial production! Bring the whole family to enjoy Toy Box, a show about toys that come to life, performed on stage and in the air by students of the A-WOL Dance Collective. Ticket prices range from $13-$21 and the shows sell out fast.
