There’s lots of inspiration in this weekend’s activities.  Whether you’re interested in media production, Eco-friendly building, artist studio tours, or idea sharing on the “small TED stage”, these activities will allow you to learn more about the people and the stories behind what they do.  Maybe one of them can fuel your creativity?  Check it out!

Meet the Producers – October 9th-30th

Hear talks by local people producing TV shows, documentaries, music videos, commercials, animation, visual effects, and short films at Meet the Producers: The View From Here on four weekday evenings at the Portland Art Museum.  Whether your interest is feature films, advertising, producing for broadcast, cable, or web content, emerging technology, or gaining general perspective on the film business, come for a glimpse of their work, the fast changing worlds in which they get it done, and the opportunity to ask questions of those who live it everyday.

Portland Green Building Slam – October 12th

The feature event of Portland Sustainable Building Week, the Green Building Slam consists of 10 interesting lectures by builders of 10 innovative projects lasting 10 minutes each.  The event showcases cutting-edge projects and technologies aimed at bringing about substantial change in our regional building practices.  6:30-10pm at Ecotrust.

Ideas Conference – October 13th

See innovators, entrepreneurs and community builders share their stories and thoughts at TEDxMtHood for talks around the theme “Decomposers”. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx, a program of local, self organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.  From 8am-4pm on Saturday at Roosevelt High School in North Portland.

Artist Open House – October 13th & 14th and 20st-21st

Visit the studios of 100 Portland artists on the self-guided Portland Open Studios tour to see their work, techniques, and spaces.  Portland Open Studios creates a unique educational opportunity for the public to witness art in the making, and learn about media, materials and the business of creative endeavor.  The Tour is composed of local artists who apply and are selected through a blind jury process. Visitors experience studios tours, demonstrations of various techniques, and many hands-on opportunities.  Download the app for studio locations and times.
