Hello, weekend! We have one word for the next few days: festival! The Rose Festival continues to bring smiles to residents and visitors, and there will even be a bonus Track & Field Festival on Saturday evening. Which event will you pick?
Rose Festival Fleet Week – June 6th – 10th
Fleet week is here and residents who drives across our bridges in the Greater Portland area know about it! Portland has made special accommodations to open Portland’s bridges to let our military ships in. The city is happy to help make these visitors who serve our country welcome! Stop by the waterfront to thank our active military, reserve personnel, and veterans.
Rose Festival Spring Rose Show – June 7th & 8th
Leave it to the Rose City to host the largest and longest-running rose show in the country. Each year, over 4,000 blooms are featured by some of the Pacific Northwest’s talented growers. Everyone is allowed to submit entries to the show to show off their best roses and battle it out for a trophy. Stop by if you want to get an early, family-friendly start to your weekend!
Rose Festival Queen’s Coronation – June 9th
The Rose Festival wouldn’t be complete without crowning a Queen. The Rose Festival Queen represents Portland along with the Rose Festival for one year, and is expected to make appearances across the nation and beyond. Queens are chosen based on their involvement in the community, leadership abilities, academic achievement, interpersonal skills and overall impression on the judges. If you would like to see the Queen’s coronation, head over to Memorial Coliseum by 8:30 am on Saturday.
Rose Festival Dragon Boat Races – June 9th & 10th
Head to the waterfront at 8am on Saturday to help kickoff an exciting Chinese tradition that’s over two decades old. If you go to the Willamette River section that’s closest to the Hawthorne Bridge, you’ll be able to see over 80 teams participate in the Rose Festival Dragon Boat Races. Some teams are local, other teams are international. All will compete in boats provided by the Portland-Kaohsiung Sister City Association.
Portland Track Festival – June 9th
Portland Track has and undeniably huge presence in the track and field community. As they gather athletes and fans alike to celebrate the sport, they are throwing a huge flagship festival to elevate the sport’s presence across the nation. Come hang out, and bring your family and friends too!
