Hello, weekend! Get ready to enjoy all of the outdoor events the Greater Portland area has to offer. The next few days feature a vintage racing festival, art in the garden, a mermaid parade, a race in nature, and a book festival. How fun!
2018 Portland Vintage Racing Festival – July 26th – 29th
Can you imagine drivers in vintage cars racing down an exciting 12-turn track that’s just shy of 2 miles long? This weekend, you don’t have to imagine a single thing. Head down to the Portland International Raceway for the Trans Am Series to see your favorite vintage vehicles on display just before they head down the raceway.
Art in the Garden – July 27th
If you would like to enjoy an evening in nature, all while enjoying the company of artists and their installations, you’re in luck. Art in the Garden is highlighting several artists from near and far, and they’re happy to answer all your questions about their work. Their work will be displayed for the rest of the summer, so if you can’t make opening night, don’t worry! You have over a month to stop by and enjoy their creations.
Portlandia Mermaid Parade – July 28th
Magic and mythology is the key to this celebration. The Portlandia Mermaid Parade is celebrating entertainers and their fans, as creative artists strive to make waves in the entertainment industry. Their goal is to inspire creativity and fantasy, while shedding light on the negative impacts that exist as they fight for self-expression. The opening ceremony is at noon, and parade start location will be at the Japanese American Historical Society on Portland’s waterfront.
REVEL Mt. Hood Race – July 28th
REVEL Mt. Hood Race is a series of running events that helps to bridge the gap with local communities, non profit organizations, sponsors, and government agencies. This fast and beautiful run is designed to get runners to spend more time running in the scenic parts of the great outdoors. This is a downhill event, giving racers an opportunity to achieve personal best times and qualify for several other events.
NW Book Festival – July 29th
Pioneer Square does it again! If you’ve ever wanted to meet the authors behind the books or stock up on a series from your favorite publishers, here’s your chance. The tents will be up for the NW Book Festival, and literary works will be out for your viewing (and purchasing!) pleasure. As always, the festival is free to the public, and will be running from 10am – 4:30 pm.
