Hello weekend! We hope you like music because this weekend filled itself with live performances from so many different genres! But don’t worry, there’s still food and dancing to make sure everyone gets to enjoy their time.
Portland’s Mini Musical Festival – January 18th – 21st
Starting on Thursday, you’ll be able to see a bunch of new 15-minute musicals that are written and produced by local writers and composers. Last year’s festival had sold out performances, so if you are a superfan of the theatre, make sure you order your tickets in advance. This year’s shows are brand new, so prepare yourself to be entertained with fresh new performances all weekend long.
School of Rock Portland – January 19th
Bands that rock out for a benefit at the Wonder Ballroom? Yes, please! The School of Rock Portland is bringing the best of the best to perform and raise money for the PROWUS.org music scholarship fund. This event is holding strong for it’s sixth year in a row, and band include Portland’s best bands, some who collaborate live with local muic students. New Year, New You: Healthy Cooking Techniques – January 20th
Are you determined to learn yummy and healthy recipes to cook this year? You’re in luck! Grab a ticket to learn the best cooking techniques from Tiffany Kent, including ways to cut back on “bad fats” and empty calories. Fan favorite recipes would include: Vegetable Bolognese, Lentil Thai Peanut Lettuce Wraps, and Shredded Chicken Tacos with Fiesta Spiced Quinoa.
Portland’s Folk Festival – January 20th
McMenamins is a Portland staple, and this event will soon be one too. Join up for a day of celebrating the craft of folk music at the First Annual Portland’s Folk Festival. Come down for solid west coast folk music flair, and then stick around for yummy food. Performances include but are not limited to Those Willows, Pretty Gretty, WORTH, and Onward, etc.
Covers & Blankets – January 20th
Covers & Blankets is an annual open-mic/blanket and clothing drive benefiting Janus Youth Programs of Portland. The rules are ricidulously simple: bring it and sing it. This wonderful organization will gladly be accepting donations of gently used blankets, outerwear, sleeping bags, rain gear, newborn and baby essentials, and toiletries. Janus Youth Programs are proudly serving Oregon and SW Washington with a homeless shelter and outreach program for at-risk youth, so come with your gifts and then share your talent with others.
Jai Ho! Dance Party Eight Year Anniversary – January 20th
Bollywood Dreams Entertainment invites you to come dressed to bedazzle and party like a Bollywood star at the Jai Ho! Dance Party‘s eight year anniversary! The Jai Ho! Dance Troupe among many others will be there to entertain you as the celebrate the values of inclusive culture. Henna is available by donation, and there will be festive elements like Holi Colos & Dandiya sticks all night long.
