If you’re looking for things to do to over this long, holiday weekend (assuming you’re not too stuffed to move!) here’s a few events to get you moving, grooving and shopping!

November 23-25th – Christmas Bazaar

America’s Largest Christmas Bazaar is being hosted at the Portland Expo Center all weekend. The event has 400 booths of locally handcrafted items plus 500 booths of commercial holiday products. This incredible festivity has been presented by the same small local company for 33 years! The show offers a great opportunity to buy unique gifts in all price ranges. Since 1982, the population of the Portland/Vancouver area has considered the Christmas Bazaar to be both a holiday tradition and a great resource for shopping for the holidays. The best part? One of RDF’s very own will be an exhibitor at the bazaar this year! Make sure you stop by and say “hello” to Athena and check out her magnificent macrame collection. All of the work is done by her and her amazing mother as the Knotty Women Studio.

November 23-25th – Nat King Cole Christmas

Christmas fans and jazz music fans alike understand the significance of Nat King Cole during the holiday season. Hailed as one of the best and most influential pianists of the swing era, his album “The Magic of Christmas” was at one time the best-selling Christmas album and remains extremely popular even today during this time of year. An Unforgettable Nat King Cole Christmas features Chicago sensation, Evan Tyrone Martin,  singing and telling stories about the music legend at the Winningstad Theatre.

November 23rd – Christmas Tree Lighting

If you have never been a part of Portland’s annual tree-lighting ceremony, you should stop by this year and experience the magic. Thousands of Portlanders gather together at Pioneer Square to celebrate the lighting of the spectacular 75′ Douglas-fir tree and sing songs curated by Portland’s own Thomas Lauderdale, with members of Pink Martini and friends. A big tree, over 14,000 colorful lights and Portland’s largest community sing-a-long, all for free? Why wouldn’t you go?!

November 23-25th – Christmas at Pittock Mansion

Pittock Mansion is one of Portland’s most well-known historic house museums, with it’s panoramic views of Portland, the Willamette River, and the distant Cascade Mountains. Now you can stroll through Pittock Mansion during A Very Portland Christmas, and see the Mansion creatively transformed into a hobbies and pastimes holiday extravaganza. The mansion is decorated for the holidays by professional designers and volunteers to highlight some familiar and not-so-familiar avocations such as opera, knitting and beekeeping! Admission is reasonable and children six and under get in for free.
