Hello, Weekend! Portland was hit with a fresh blanket of snow this past week and we are all looking forward to a slightly warmer weekend. Maybe you’ll see a dance show, or maybe you’ll run into the ocean. Keep reading for fun activities to do with those who you love to spend time with.
Left of Center – February 23rd – March 4th
Aerial arts and dance– prepare yourself to be entertained by the A-WOL dance collective starting this weekend. This is a show designed for daydreamers of all ages who love to float between fantasy and reality. A-WOL directs 2 training companies and offers a full schedule of aerial classes to students ages 4 and up. If you like what you see, maybe you can take a class or two!
Polar Plunge – February 24th
It’s simple. You commit to taking a plunge at Broughton Beach. Then, you register to participate as a solo “plunger” or maybe you join a team. After you raise a minimum of $50 in pledges from friends and family members, you run into the water and get out as fast as you can! Because as it turns out, it’s cold outside in Oregon. The more you raise, the bigger your incentive prize, but either way it’s all in fun and raises money for a good cause.
Betsy & Iya Bazaar – February 24th
Betsy & Iya is a fantastic store that features quality and unique goods for women’s fashion and other one-of-a-kind items including jewelry, home decor, accessories and more. This weekend, the store is featuring beautiful, handmade goods from all over the world. Make sure you get there early! Since these pieces are unique and available at a great price, the best selection will go starting at 10am.
How to Fillet a Fish – February 24th
Filson is known for carrying products that will accommodate and enhance your outdoor experience, and this week, the store is hosting a special event. You can visit Oregon’s store in the pearl district to improve and master your basic fisherman skills. Park Kitchen will be the one to teach you the techniques needed to fillet an entire salmon. It’s a hands-on experience, and if that doesn’t strike you as interesting, you can always choose to shop or enjoy the complimentary snacks. Come to Filson and master a basic fisherman’s skill that’s also useful in the kitchen. Park Kitchen will be on-hand to teach you the techniques needed to properly fillet a whole salmon. Free beer and pretzels.
Portland Flea & Food – February 25th
Portland loves their markets, and each month, the Portland Flea & Food Market is held on the last Sunday of the month. Every market features 40+ local artists, makers, and curators of the best vintage, handmade and locally-sourced goods in town. Bring your wallet and your taste buds, this event won’t disappoint.
