Hello Thanksgiving Day Weekend! The rainy weather is officially here, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun. There’s plenty of holiday magic happening this weekend, but if you prefer to watch sports, there’s something for you too. Keep reading.
PK80: Phil Knight Invitational – November 23rd – 26th
Portland is hosting one of the biggest college basketball tournaments ever put together: the PK80 Phil Knight Invitational. Take a ride to the Moda Center to celebrate Phil Knight, the co-founder Nike, who turns 80 this year. The basketball tournament will showcase some of the most successful schools in the history of men’s college basketball, including some of your favorite local teams. Defending 2017 NCAA Champions the University of North Carolina will be headlining the lineup, but there are plenty other teams that will visit. Other notable teams include Duke University, University of Oregon, and Michigan State among others.
Little Boxes – November 24th – 26th
Little Boxes® is a city-wide shopping event and prize raffle. Starting on Friday, November 24th, you’ll be able to welcome in the holiday season by discovering the quality and variety of Portland’s indie and local shopping scene. You’ll be able to unlock 10% off at more businesses, and enter to win some incredible prizes too. America’s Largest Christmas Bazaar – November 24th – December 3rd
Remember when we told you about America’s Largest Antique and Collectible Show? You’ll be able to enjoy a similar event with a holiday spin this time around. The Christmas Bazaar is an annual event that has been a Portland holiday shopping tradition for more than 30 years. The show features 1,000 booths of a variety of interesting and diverse items ranging from beaded jewelry to dog beds. Booths are staffed and owned by local small business owners.
ZooLights – November 24th – January 7th
Local residents and Portland natives know that the Oregon Zoo and its animals celebrate the holiday by covering the Zoo in thousands of brilliant lights in amazing, animal-themed displays. This year, ZooLights is bigger than ever! The train ride, a popular add-on attraction, features an interactive experience this year with some favorite seasonal characters near the Family Farm. This family friendly event is sure to please, and there will be food and hot beverages for purchase this weekend.
Weekly Group Meditation – November 26th
This meditation style is perfect for both beginners and experienced practitioners of all ages. This Sunday evening, you’ll be able to learn and practice simple breath focus meditation with a friendly group of like minded people. It’s an amazing way to slow down at the end of the holiday weekend and bring more peace into your life. The class begins with some very gentle stretching and movement to warmup the body. After you’re warm, the 30-minute meditation is followed by the invitation to share your experience and ask any questions that you may have. You are free to attend this meditation free of charge, or share a nominal donation. As long as you arrive up to 15 minutes early to avoid disturbing others, you and your buddies are welcome.
