Hello, weekend! Just in case you weren’t aware of the holiday explosion that’s been happening since late November, it’s Christmas time in Portland! There are plenty of events happening over the holiday weekend even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, so if you need something to do from Friday – Monday, there’s something for you to enjoy. Keep reading!
Christmas in the Garden – December 21st – 31st
Portland loves their lights! Here’s another way to enjoy them, complete with live music, shopping, ices skating, “snowless” tubing and more. It will be chilly, but don’t worry! You can warm up with hot beverages, toasty snacks, or just hang out by the fire. You’ll also get a chance to take a picture with Santa near the traditional artisan German market, so if you’re feeling merry and want to get outdoors, check this fun event out.
A Very Portland Christmas – December 21st – 31st
Pittock Mansion has been a staple in the Portland community for decades. This year, you’ll be able to enjoy a fantastic holiday display that celebrates everything local. Decorations include themes that celebrate Portland thrills such as Powell’s Books and Peacock Lane. You’ll also be able to visit the mansion’s Music Room where local musicians will entertain you and your family.
Shooting Stars above Portland 2017 – December 22nd
Night owls, unite! If nature has been calling and you don’t mind staying up late, this pre-Christmas solstice shower is for you. Portland will be treated to a brief but bright Ursids meteor shower on Friday, December 22nd. This is an open event, and the organizers promise ideal observing conditions. All you have to do is look for a great place at Forest Park and enjoy the view. Stargazers will be able to observe the sky from 11pm – 5am, but feel free to come and go as you please.
Renegade Craft Fair – December 22nd & 23rd
Just in case you don’t want to shop outside at Festival of The Last Minute, you’ll be able enjoy an indoor craft fair experience in Portland’s Pearl District. Get all your last-minute shopping done this weekend, and support small businesses that have plenty to offer too. There will be unique, handmade items along with yummy food, music and more. The fair is free to attend, and while street parking is available, there’s plenty of public transportation options if you want to avoid holiday traffic. Renegade is proud to partner with CERF+ during their 2017 Winter Tour to help raise funds for their Disaster Relief Fund. Donations will provide aid to affected makers and artists from the recent devastating disasters from Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria and the wildfires in Northern California.
Winter Wonderland – December 21st – 26th
Some call it Winter Wonderland, others call it the “Largest Holiday Light Show West of the Mississippi.” No matter what you call it, this event will glimmer and glow for everyone who wants to stop by and enjoy the holiday season vibes this weekend. This is a drive-thru experience where you’ll be able to enjoy all of the light displays that the Portland International Raceway has to offer. There will be over 250 light set pieces and several fully animated scenes. Grab a car and some buddies to enjoy everything from the comfort of your vehicle.
