Are you feeling festive yet? This weekend offers plenty of tricks and even more treats! Whether you like your October to be adorable or macabre, adventurous or traditional, sweet or spooky, we’ve got you covered this weekend!
October 18th – 20th – Annual Apple Tasting Festival
The Portland Nursery is a community favorite. They have a wonderful variety of indoor and outdoor plants to brighten even the gloomiest of days. This weekend, the Portland Nursery is hosting one of their most-loved annual events: the Apple Tasting Festival! Apples are always delicious, but fall is their time to shine, so don’t miss the chance to sample over 60 varieties! You can buy your favorites by the pound, watch cider pressing demonstrations, and check out the fun and funky scarecrow contest! Activities like pumpkin painting, a scavenger hunt, and a puppet show will be available for the kiddos, so make sure you bring them along!
October 18th – 20th – Oddities and Curiosities Expo
It’s come that time of year, with spooky jack-o-lanterns, green twinkle lights, and sparkly spiderweb-adorned porches. Most of us are giddy to let our inner Addams Family values shine during the month of October… but what about the rest of the year? If your closet is full of black, your bookshelf is full of Edgar Allen Poe, or if Halloween is your favorite holiday – we may have found your people. The Oddities and Curiosities Expo is the original traveling oddities event! This expo houses vendors on every spectrum of weird, spooky, and unusual. Think jackalopes, 19th century medical tools, and other things that go bump in the night. You’ll want to stick around for the sword swallower and other sideshow performers! Okay, so maybe this event isn’t as cutesy as your neighbor’s plastic tombstones… but it will certainly be exciting!
October 19th – Train River Bluegrass
The sky may not be terribly blue this weekend, but your grass sure can be! On a gray Saturday Market morning, local sensation Train River will be bringing the sunshine with authentic bluegrass music. We can’t think of any better soundtrack for strolling through Saturday Market. You can go simply to enjoy the sound of mandolins and fiddles on the waterfront, but we love the idea of getting a head start on holiday shopping while you’re at it. Live music on the Willamette is much more soothing than the mall after all! Music will begin around 11:30, but the market is open until 5pm.
October 18th – 31st – Underhill Haunted House
This is a haunted house like you’ve never seen! Actually, it’s FOUR haunted houses like you’ve never seen! At the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, you will find haunting experiences that suit your own personal tolerance for scariness. If you like your haunts to be a bit more traditional, the Underhill Manor offers a delightfully frightening Victorian mansion experience. If you like your adrenaline rush to be extra intense, you’ll love what Clown Factory and Infectious offer. Lastly, if you prefer squeals excitement over squeals of terror, the Kids Monster Fest is best for just a little bit of BOO! If you’re not too sure… you can always start at the mildest and work up to the wildest! You can decide for yourself at the Underhill Haunted House!
