May 17th – 19th – Filmed by Bike Festival
This weekend, Portland’s famous Hollywood Theater will host the 17th Annual Filmed by Bike Festival. As an excellent form of eco-friendly transportation, and an enjoyable way to get outdoors, cycling has become a fixture of Portland culture. This film festival features some of the best bike movies in the world. The weekend includes a group bike ride, meet-and-greets with filmmakers, 74 films, and social gatherings. The Filmed by Bike festival also supports NW Documentary, a non-profit organization whose core belief is that everyone has a story, and everyone is a storyteller. You’ll certainly have some stories to tell after this jam-packed event!
May 17th – Vet Fest PDX
This Friday evening, Oaks Park Amusement Park will host Vet Fest PDX, a benefit concert for the VFRC Family Emergency Fund. The Veterans and Families Resource Center (VFRC) of Oregon is a nonprofit, and non-political, organization that helps veterans connect to the services and benefits earned by their service. This event features acts signed to Effin Records, a military affiliated recording company, such as fire fighter band, Fifth Alarm. Show your support and shake your hips!

Maria Bamford loves to keep it real. Her comedic style combines vulnerability with absurdity as she jokes about everyday family life, aging, and the ebbs and flows of mental health. You may be familiar with Bamford’s work on television shows such as American Dad, BoJack Horseman, and Lady Dynamite. This weekend, she will grace the stage of Portland’s Helium Comedy Club for a stand up show!
