Happy Weekend! It was another holiday season for the books, and we want to keep those good vibes flowing! What was the most satisfying piece of your holiday? Was it an elaborate gathering? Perhaps it was the act of giving, or trying something new? Was it traveling and seeing sights? Or was it simply the laughter you shared with loved ones? This weekend, we’ve chosen fabulous feel-good events, because peace, joy, and all things merry are yours for the taking any time of year.
December 27th – 31st – Whale Watching Week
We all know that birds fly south for the winter… but did you know that whales do too? Ok, whales don’t fly, but they do migrate! This time of year, nearly 25,000 gray whales swim south to the warm lagoons of Mexico. Sounds like a great vacation, right? Many of us won’t be able to meet these majestic creatures in their Baja oasis, but we can take a day trip to the coast for some of the best whale watching of the year! There are 24 designated locations along the Oregon coast, where expert volunteers will be on the lookout for gray whales and other marine mammals. This natural phenomenon happens only twice each year, and this weekend is technically the last chance of the decade! Whale see you there!
December 28th – NW Portland Clean Up
Though most of our gifts have already been opened, the season of giving is still upon us! If you’re looking for a way to give back to your community this season, the NW Portland Clean Up would be a fantastic place to start. You’ll meet Saturday morning at the NW Portland International Hostel to enjoy refreshments and warm greetings from SOLVE Oregon’s volunteers. The group will hit the streets together to give the NW Portland neighborhood a spruce-up before the new year! Not only is this a great way to give back, it also allows us to make personal connections and strengthen the sense of community in the Portland area.
December 27th – Comedy Night
If you love to laugh, you will love this! Friday night at Al’s Den in downtown Portland, catch a FREE comedy show featuring some of the best up and coming names in Portland! Hosted by Brandon Lyons, this event offers a fresh new lineup each week, which means new jokes and vibrant energy each time. Al’s Den is a cozy venue nestled below the Crystal Hotel, with table seating and a full dinner menu. This is a great date night to lift the spirits!
December 28th – Krampus 2019
Have you heard of Krampus? In old European folklore, the consequence of the naughty list was much harsher than coal in your stocking. Santa Clause, as we know, is a jolly-hearted father-type who rewards children for their good behavior. The promise of a visit from St. Nick is designed to keep the peace in our households. But… in centuries passed, there was a more sinister promise made – that a goat-like Christmas monster named Krampus would pay a visit to anyone who misbehaved! Honestly, Krampus is super scary, and it’s probably for the best that he is no longer a part of our kids’ holiday traditions. However, grown-ups can’t help but love a good scare, a creative costume, and an elegant party at a Victorian mansion. This weekend at the Victorian Belle, enter an epic costume contest, dine on gourmet food, and an enjoy an unbeatable ambiance at Krampus 2019.
December 28th – Trail Blazers vs Los Angeles Lakers
Two amazing west coast teams face off this weekend! Get out there and root for your team! Who will be triumphant in a match between Southern California and the Pacific Northwest? Find out at the Moda Center this Saturday!
