They say there’s no place like home for the holidays – so, if home is where the heart is, then you’re already home. While they may not be wrapped in red ribbons and bows, remember that each of these moments is a gift. Being present during this sweet season is the best present of all. This weekend, let yourself settle into the holiday cheer. You deserve it. Happy Holidays!
December 21st – Christmas Ships
For 65 Christmas seasons, a fleet of beautifully lit ships have paraded up and down the Columbia and Willamette rivers for all to see. This weekend will be their last parade of 2019, and we can’t think of a lovelier way to welcome in the holidays. Take note of how gracefully these large illuminated vessels move across the water. They are peaceful and confident and always welcome a friendly gaze. We think these Christmas Ships are a pretty amazing metaphor for the way we would like to float into the new year! Find the perfect viewpoint based on the fleet’s route. There will be a meet and greet both Saturday and Sunday, and all proceeds will benefit William Temple House.
December 22nd – First Night: Light Up the Night
Chanukah begins this Sunday, and downtown Portland is ready to celebrate! We all know if the giant tree in Pioneer square – but for 33 years, Director Park has displayed a massive menorah for all to enjoy! This weekend, head on down for live music, awesome Chanukah treats, and a beautiful menorah lighting ceremony. You won’t want to miss the first night, but if you do, all is not lost. We’ll Light Up the Night every night this week in honor of Chanukah!
December 21st – Winter Solstice Event
Snuggle up at Milwaukie Bay Park this Saturday evening for a relaxing, family-oriented bonfire celebration. Winter Solstice is the very first day of the winter season, and in ancient traditions, was celebrated as the beginning of the solar new year. Today, winter solstice is a great excuse to get together for some pre-holiday quality time with the folks we love most! This event will include several bonfires with seating, lots of treats for carnivores and herbivores alike, and a stunning view of the Christmas Ships Parade as it circles through Milwaukie Bay.
