Hello Weekend! March 15th-17th

Okay, we’re calling it: it’s officially the first weekend of spring and no one can take it back from us (not even the looming threat of rain in the near future). And with that, we plan on doing ALL the outdoor things while we can this weekend (be prepared for EVERYONE to have the same idea, at the same time). And if you live in or around Hood River County, we have compiled a list of all (okay not all) the outdoor things you can do this weekend, specifically in and around Hood River and Cascade Locks.

The Hood River Farmer’s Market: March 16th

This Saturday marks the second March market of the Hood River Farmers Market, Winter Season edition. This Winter Market begins in December and runs twice a month through April. This Saturday is your last chance in March to attend, so be sure to get out and buy up all the fresh produce and goods you can find! They have a fine array of produce, meats, eggs, cheeses, breads, honey, and homemade goods and gifts from local makers. They also accept SNAP benefits. The market is located at 403 Parkway Ave, Hood River, OR 97031 and will be open 10:00am to 12:00pm.

Dry Creek Falls: March 16th-17th

With just a 3-minute drive and a quick jaunt over highway 84, you will find the trailhead for Dry Creek Falls. This hike is a 4.4 mile, in and out hike that will take you up about 700 feet in elevation and will end with one of the many waterfalls that grace the gorge. There are also other trailheads that connect to this one, predominately, the Pacific Crest Trail. It’s a great weekend hike that can end with a great meal just across the way from the start of the trailhead (we recommend Eastwind Drive-in for a well-deserved burger).

Mountain Biking in Cascade Locks: March 16th-17th

Not super interested in hiking, but still want to experience the outdoors with a physical activity? Mountain Biking is a great alternative, and there are many trails in the gorge that offer mountain bike-friendly trails. For beginners or those with young kids, we recommend the Easy CLIMB Trail, located in Government Cove, near Cascade Locks! The trail is 2.7 miles, single track with little climbing. It’s a great trail to start training on before going out on more difficult trails this summer. The trail is located right off highway 84, on Cramblett Way.
