Client Guide – What is the process after my DUI arrest?

What’s the process?  If you’re facing DUII charges in Oregon, you’re probably wondering, what happens now?  That is a great question and one of the biggest challenges that people face if they choose not to hire an attorney to represent them.  The criminal justice system is not liner and often not logical. To add complications, each jurisdiction does things just a little differently than each other.  This can make it challenging for people  experiencing the system for the first time.  You might have two court appearances, you might only have one.  Your appearances might be slightly different and on a different timeline depending on which county or municipality you are scheduled to appear in.  In some counties, your Arraignment happens within 24 hours of your arrest and in some counties you have up to 30 days before that court appearance happens.

Process = Case Mapping

At Reynolds Defense Firm, we have created a case mapping process that we have found truly helps our clients know what to expect throughout the process.  We sit down at the beginning of their case and map out the steps that are going to happen at approximately what time during the life of the case. We also talk about what to expect during that time to try and minimize surprises. With over 50 years combined criminal experience, our team knows that things can, and often will change.  When we sit down with them we can talk through any expectations of changes or shifts in this map. This way they know what is going to happen in what sequence, they know what our team is doing at each point of the process and what they need to be doing as well.

“We make court boring”

For our Team of six attorneys, what happens at court appearances seems so straightforward because they are in court and multiple jurisdictions on a daily basis.  We understand for our clients, appearing in court is often the first time that they have faced the criminal justice system and it can be daunting.  Our goal in helping them understand what to expect is something our attorneys say all the time, “We make court boring.”  When you know what to expect, what your role is and what is going to happen or not happen, you don’t have to worry as much.

We find it helps our clients to feel more in control and helps us to do a better job for them. If you or someone you care about has been arrested for a DUI, please call for our free consultation (503) 223-3422 so that we can start to take the “what happens now?” burden off your shoulders.
