Summer is just around the corner and the weekends are getting warmer, inviting explorations out of our comfort zones and usual habits – which is what Hello Weekend is all about! This week our focus is on Washington County: a diverse slice of the Willamette Valley, full sprawling suburban landscapes and shopping centers, but also many miles of farmland and a surprising trove of natural wonders. Many of the communities that make up this area have thriving home-grown cultural and business districts worth exploring. Whether you are looking for a physical challenge, to spruce up the garden, or to take in some local art, we’ve got some ideas to get you started.

Lightning Thief – The Percy Jackson Musical, June 2nd

If you are a fantasy enthusiast or you have a bookish kid in your life, you’ve probably heard of the beloved Percy Jackson series of books by Rick Riordan, which has spurned an interest in Greek mythology in a generation of young adults. Now, the talented folks at Hillsboro Artists Regional Theatre (HART) have turned The Lightening Thief into a musical, and it begins a month-long run this weekend. HART has been bringing high-quality local theatre productions to life for 30 years. This production runs from Saturday, June 2nd through June 23rd at the HART theatre in downtown Hillsboro. Get tickets here, and more information at the HART website here.

There will be a live DJ curating a crowd-pleasing set of funky jams, designed to get you out of your shell and out on the dance floor to celebrate LGBTQ+ diversity. Free Community Hot Yoga Class, June 1st

If you haven’t done hot yoga before, here’s your chance to stretch, sweat, and otherwise shake out the stress of the week for free. If you do it right, you’ll feel like a happily wrung sponge afterwards, slightly soggy and relaxed. Bonfire Hot Yoga puts on a complimentary class once a month at their studio, located at 3665 SW Hall Blvd in Beaverton. This is a beginner class, including a variety of poses focused on spinal health and mobility. The room is hot and humid, so wear something comfortable and give it a shot! Bring your mat and a towel if you have them, otherwise they are available for rent when you check in. Come down at 3:00 PM on Saturday. Register for the class at this link.

Spring Community Plant Swap, June 2nd
