From video-game themed runs to donkey birthday parties, there are a lot of great reasons to spend time in Clackamas County this weekend. From West Linn to Mount Hood, Clackamas County offers a wide variety of landscapes and attractions, as well as cultural and historical points of interest. Here is just a small sampling of what this wonderful area has to offer:

Oregon Trail Game 5k run, May 19th

If you went to public school in the 70’s or 80’s, then you probably remember the Oregon Trail video game – a text-driven game with crude graphics featuring bear attacks and frequent bouts of dysentery. The educational game taught a generation of kids about the trials and tribulations of pioneers on the Oregon Trail from Missouri to Oregon City. The 8th annual Oregon Trail themed 5k run combines both a timed score along with a game score reflecting choices made along the route. You’ll be dodging virtual snake bites and making strategic survival decisions as you jog along the way – fun and exercise for the whole family! The adult race starts at 8:00 AM, and kids’ fun run starts at 10:00 AM. The location is 814 Main St, Oregon City, OR 97045. Get more details here and here.

Ballet with Oregon Ballet Theatre 2, May 18th

Who says you have to be in Portland to see a great dance performance? Head down to the Milwaukie Community Center on Saturday, May 18th, for a special afternoon performance of contemporary and classic dance pieces. The program includes excerpts from Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, along with original choreography from Oregon Ballet Theatre‘s artistic director Dani Rowe. This is a family-oriented event, and kids will have an opportunity to get their pictures taken with the ballerinas after the show. Just a $5 recommend donation gets you in. Located in West Linn, Tollen Farm offers beautiful orchards and a garden, along with a herd of Mediterranean Donkeys, Arabian Horses, and one fluffy llama on over four acres of eco-friendly farm. There are also two shops on site, so you can bring a piece of country charm back home with you. The party is on Saturday, from 1:00 PM-4:00 PM at 11681 SW Tooze Road.
