Summertime in Portland is the perfect time for scenic activities like picnics, hikes, and beach trips. But it’s also the best opportunity to take in the city’s diverse and wonderful attractions that make Portland one of a kind. This weekend, get outside in that sunshine and celebrate Summer the Portland way.
Balloon Festival: June 23rd-25th
Summer is the perfect time for scenic activities like picnics, hikes, beach trips and maybe even hot-air balloon rides. In Oregon, you don’t have to travel far to see an impressive, picture-perfect display of your own. The Festival of Balloons in Tigard (a suburb 30 minutes southwest of downtown Portland by car) brings more than a dozen brightly colored, colossal hot-air balloons to the sky every June.
Lake Oswego Festival of Arts: June 23rd-25th
For more than 50 years, the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts has proudly presented unique art exhibits including more than 600 local, national, and international artists. Visitors can also experience live music on two stages, performances, kids’ activities, artist demos, and a variety of food. It’s free to the public (donations encouraged) and attracts thousands of festival-goers each year.
Mt. Hood Multicultural Festival: June 24th-25th
The Good In The Hood (GITH) is a non-profit organization founded in 1990 by the parents and staff of Holy Redeemer Catholic School with a vision to raise funding for the school and to celebrate diversity. The GITH staff of volunteers has continued that tradition. It provides a viable venue to maintain ‘Unity in the Community’ (the motto) and, most importantly, the ability to provide scholarships to enrolled college students. This annual festival is the largest of its type in the Pacific Northwest and takes place annually on the last weekend of June. It opens with a parade that travels through Northeast Portland and ends at the festival site. The festival site provides a setting where businesses can share their resources, small businesses can sell their products, and where locally and nationally renowned musicians perform their extraordinary talents.
