Happy new year! Now that 2024 has officially begun, we are going to dive into all the fun, alcohol-alternative events and activities available for you to discover around Oregon. This week, we’re going to focus on Marion County, Oregon; specifically, events and activities in Salem, Oregon; Silverton, Oregon; and Stayton, Oregon.

Salem Showdown Scavenger Hunt: January 5th – 8th

Hosted by Alley Kat Adventures and Broadway Coffeehouse in downtown Salem, this Salem Showdown Scavenger Hunt will have you and your family/friends adventuring around the city solving unique, creative, and fun tasks and challenges. You will begin at the Broadway Coffee House, located at 1300 Broadway Street NE, #100, Salem, Oregon 97301. You’ll take pictures and videos that you will send to a virtual host who will help you along the way. It’s a perfect way to explore different parts of the Salem City Center and to get you out of the house this weekend! Kids and dogs are welcome, but the various challenges will take you both indoors and outdoors, so dress accordingly and follow business protocols regarding dogs. Checkout their Eventbrite for more information and ticket pricing.

The Gordon House Tours: January 5th – 7th

Enthusiastic about architecture? Then you might already know who Frank Lloyd Write is. For those not in the know (or those less enthusiastic about architecture) he is the creator of “organic architecture” — buildings that blend in and vibe with the environment and inhabitants. There is a structure of his, The Gordon House, located next door to the Oregon Garden in Silverton, Oregon, which offers guided and educational tours of the structure every weekend at 12pm, 1pm, and 2pm. Get your architect enthusiasm on (or bring that friend/family member who can nerd out to good and interesting buildings) and take a tour of the Gordon house. All proceeds go directly to the preservation and educational mission of the site. The exact address is: 869 W Main St, Silverton, Oregon 97381.

Cars & Coffee: January 5th and every Friday

Coffee and classic cars–perfect combo for any given Friday. In fact, EVERY Friday the Covered Bridge Cafe in historic downtown Stayton, Oregon hosts the Cars & Coffee event where anyone can bring their classic cars, have a cup of coffee, and tuck into some bacon-laden breakfast (bacon is their specialty, after all). Once satiated, patrons are then encouraged to go cruise along some of Oregon’s most beautiful country roads. The cafe has been a local favorite since 2006 and, even if you don’t have a classic car of your own to show off, you can still go and “ooh” and “aww” over other people’s classic Caddys. Located at 510 N 3rd Ave, Stayton, OR 97383.
