Welcome to February 2024! Groundhog Day is today, and Punxsutawney Phil has declared an early spring! Time to start thinking about all the fun spring activities you want to accomplish this year. In the meantime, this weekend is looking fair as far as weather is concerned, so maybe we can get a little taste of spring with some sunshine and dry skies. This week, we are focusing on alcohol-alternative events in Columbia County, Oregon, specifically events and activities in: Scappoose, St. Helens, and Columbia City!

St. Helens Public Library Ukulele Orchestra – February 3rd

We LOVE to hype up local libraries whenever we can on this blog, and this week is no exception! If you live in St. Helens, Oregon, and you’ve always had an interest in learning how to play an instrument, but don’t want to invest too much money or time in learning, then perhaps this is the perfect event for you. The Ukulele Orchestra is a group that meets every Saturday at the in the auditorium of the Columbia Center. You will need to bring your own instrument, but luckily ukuleles are not terribly expensive. This group is great for beginners or those who want to brush up on basic skills. The Columbia Center is located at: 375 S 18th St, St. Helens, OR 97051 and they meet from 10:00am – 10:30am. Stop by and learn a song to wow all your friends with!

Pisgah Trailhead – Crown Zellerbach Trail – February 2nd – 4th

This weekend looks fairly clear, weather-wise, which means it will be a good opportunity to dust off your hiking shoes and hit a trail! We know Oregonians typically don’t let a little mud or water get in their way of outdoor adventure, so we recommend trying out the Pisgah Trailhead -Crown Zellerback Trail just right outside of Scappoose, Oregon. This trail is great for walking or biking as it is primarily gravel, and you can learn about the local flora and fauna along the way from the various information kiosks. To get to the trailhead, you’ll want to take the Scappoose-Veronia Road heading NW out of Scappoose city proper. You will then find the trailhead marker at 32405 Wikstrom Rd, Scappoose OR 97056.

Caples House Museum Friday Tea: February 2nd

Every Friday the Caples House Museum and Knapp Center in Columbia City, Oregon, hosts a teatime from 2:00pm-4:00pm at Caples Cottage. It’s just $5 to enjoy sipping tea with friends and eating their freshly baked desserts. Unfortunately, the museum is closed for the season, but who can beat a $5 cup of tea AND dessert in a beautiful cottage with awesome views of the surrounding area? The Cottage is located at: 1925 First Street, Columbia City, OR 97018.
